Founded in 2013 by Dr. Rob Johnstone after twenty years of consulting experience in industry and higher education, the National Center for Inquiry & Improvement (NCII) provides professional services that focus on the use of applied inquiry to create structures and processes that achieve improved outcomes. While we most strongly focus on our higher education work with community colleges and 4-year colleges, our core principles of inquiry & improvement prepare us to also work with workforce, civic engagement, and environmental concerns.
NCII provides its services with a strong grounding in practitioner engagement and a deep understanding of organizational change in the real world — a world that often isn’t described by a series of color-coded charts. In our higher education work, we come to the table with deep experience, a passion for the work, energy, and an infectious sense of optimism that we can leverage the impressive work of the past decade to create the conditions to fundamentally improve the lives of hundreds of thousands of students nationally.
With an amazing group of partners and an impressive core team, NCII is working on many of the major national and state initiatives in higher education, including the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence, Beyond Financial Aid, Completion by Design, and Guided Pathways projects in Arkansas, Connecticut,Georgia, Hawaii, Michigan, North Carolina, Tennessee and Washington. Equally important for colleges around the country, NCII works with colleges directly, serving those colleges who aren’t fortunate enough to be part of the major national initiatives and/or want local control over their improvement efforts.
